Dear Visitor
AFB Overberg (TFDC) is extremely
fortunate to be the host of one of only two air shows that will be
presented by the
SA Air Force in South Africa this year. The other will
be presented by the SAAF Museum in Pretoria.
As in 2007 the biennial AFB Overberg air show will also
be combined with a Fly-in that can boast with a record amount of 185
light aircraft in 2007. This year we aim to break the 200 mark
over the weekend of 13 -15 November
2009.
AFB Overberg also makes use of this
opportunity to promote its aviation awareness program, Siyandiza,
amongst the previously disadvantage youth of the region. This entails
hundreds of learners being transported to the event from all over the
region.
The 2007 Air Show / Fly-in was awarded the best air show
in South Africa by Aeroclub SA. The personnel of AFB Overberg
are once again committed to host and present an event of international
standard. We are committed to be even bigger and better
and to beat the 20 000 spectators of 2007.
This “not-to-be-missed “ event kicks
off the Friday evening with a
Wine Auction
and Exhibition where the Pride of the Western Cape Wines will
be available for the serious (and the not so serious) wine connoisseur
to taste and buy.
Various SA Air Force aircraft such as the
Gripen, Hawk,
Agusta 109, Oryx, Astras (Silver Falcons), Lynx, Rooivalk etc will once
again form part of our spectacular air display program. As usual and
almost synonymous with the AFB Overberg (TFDC) air show we sincerely
hope the Shell sponsored team of aircraft from Thunder City will once
again participate.
Apart from an air capability demonstration by SA Air
Force aircraft, a “fly off” between a previous generation fighter and
the SAAF's new Gripen fighter, is planned. This promises
to be a spectacular demonstration of air superiority by the new Pride of
the SAAF.
Various other civilian air show participants are also
expected. Because this is not purely a military event, we as an air show
committee will rely heavily on civilian participation to make the event
a resounding success once again.
We thank you
The
team
